MAQLT Snippets of Sufi Wisdom
Resumen
Sufism is perhaps the deepest mystical current in the rich, venerable and multi-faceted spirituality of Islam. Neither Islam, Judaism, or Christianity must be mistaken simply as ‘religion’. All religious practices emerge and develop from a pre-existing apprehension of a Divine Mystery that is too deep for words. Silence about God, whose Name is above and beyond every other name, is a cautionary tale told by each of the world’s three major religions. The Sayings of the Sufi Masters collected in this book are a small sampling of what is a bottomless wealth of Islamic spirituality. The accompanying meditations are my attempt, for a Christian perspective, to disclose a mystic unity underlying the religious differences that so often separate two of the world’s greatest faith communities. Like the Persian poet, Hafiz, I aspire to be ‘a hole in the flute that the Christ's breath moves through’. The reader can decide how beautiful the music sounds
