Mr. Williams, curator of a university museum, acquires a seemingly dull mezzotint of a country manor. To his horror, the engraving begins to change, revealing a sinister sequence: a cloaked figure crawling across the lawn, breaking into the house, and abducting a child. Each viewing shows a new stage of the grim drama. Research uncovers the manor's dark past, linking the spectral figure to vengeance and murder long buried in history.
