Of Corporations, Law, and Democracy: Claiming the Rights of Communities and Nature

As the co-founder and staff attorney for the nonprofit Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, Thomas Linzey is engaged in the work of "collective nonviolent disobedience through municipal lawmaking." He has dedicated himself to changing the method of governance in the United States. Linzey believes that for democracy to be a reality, a shift must be made from "regulating the activity to defining the actor." His lecture gives hope and direction to our communities that are too often plagued by absentee governing and ownership.
